ABOUT THE PAPER BEADS:
These unique beads are handmade from paper by women in Rwanda. They use triangular shaped pieces of paper, roll them tightly, paint or dye and seal them. Since each is handmade, they vary in size, color and shape giving them a wonderful and different quality and feel. A few of the beads may have tiny spots discoloration from where they were stuck together before being strung, or a few may have small lumps where the sealer may have made them stick together, but it all adds to the rustic charm of the beads.

GIVING BACK:
A portion of the purchase price of the Rwandan paper beaded items listed in my Etsy shop or sold in person (at craft shows, etc.) will go back to the women of Africa in the form of tools and supplies for their future beading needs. They are making beads as a means to support themselves and their families. These women are often times less-privileged Rwandans who have endured hardships relating to the 1994 genocide. They may be widows or have lost most or all of their family members. Others are receiving medical care for HIV or other medical issues. They receive training in basket weaving, bead making and other crafts, and are given assistance in getting back on their feet. Once they have learned the skills, they are able to go back to their communities and continue to work and earn money for their families. These women throughout Rwanda  work at home and then bring their completed items back to the city. From there they take home more raw materials to continue crafting.

Thanks and good luck! Denise
